Cottage Life Media adds to its western presence

The Blue Ant Media-owned company is rebranding Cottage magazine and launching the Edmonton Cottage Life and Cabin Show next spring.

Cottage Life Media is undergoing a change in Western Canada next spring, rebranding its Cottage magazine to become Cottage Life West beginning in March.

The Blue Ant Media-owned company acquired Cottage magazine from Vancouver-based OP Publishing in July 2012 and is rebranding the bi-monthly title to offer advertisers a national buy between Cottage Life West and its Eastern Canada title Cottage Life, Al Zikovitz, president, Cottage Life Media, tells MiC.

Zikovitz says content in Cottage Life West will be a mix of content taken from Cottage Life and original content for the Western Canada audience, who typically own more cabins and ski chalets in addition to waterfront cottages, which are the norm for the magazine’s audience in Ontario. The audience for the Cottage Life brand overall is about 52% male, 48% female, with a higher than normal income and a 50/50 split between rural and urban dwellers.

The media company is also launching a western companion to its Cottage Life Show next year with the Edmonton Cottage Life and Cabin Show, happening April 25 to 27 at the Edmonton Expo Centre, which will feature more than 100 exhibitors. Zikovitz says the shows provide an opportunity for the brand to advertise its other assets, which include the recently launched Cottage Life channel.
