The top three TV advertisers in Canada were the same last week, according to media monitoring data from AdEase, but a handful of other brands made big pushes towards the top.

Tim Hortons, McDonald’s and CIBC once again held the top three spots nationally. Tims is continuing to advertise its newest breakfast sandwich and Sparkling Quencher beverages, but also re-started a buy behind a recruitment campaign. McDonald’s put the bulk of its support behind the Big Mac, while CIBC is continuing a new campaign for its Smart Accounts.

Dairy Queen was a major mover last week, however, becoming the fourth-most active advertiser after beginning a new campaign for its “Miracle Treat Day” CSR promotion. Amazon moved into fifth with its back-to-school campaign, while Bell Media’s streaming service Crave moved up to sixth.

QSRs were once again the most active TV advertiser, with significant buys also coming from Popeye’s, Subway and A&W in certain markets. They had nearly twice as many TV spots as furniture stores, which remained in second thanks to buys from Leon’s, The Brick and Sleep Country.
