As travel brands ease their radio ads ever so slightly, government have maintained the strength of their buys to be the most active advertisers in several cities, according to data from media intelligence firm AdEase for Jan. 23 to 29.
The Government of Quebec was the top buyer in Montreal and Quebec City, as well as in Ottawa, promoting ongoing public health measures. The Government of Alberta was at the top in Calgary and Edmonton, with ads for the Alberta Child and Family Benefit, as well as ones promoting its plans for the province’s healthcare sector.
Outside of government, the Toyota Dealers Association boosted its buy to land the top spot in Toronto, along with top ten finishes in Ottawa and Vancouver. Subway was also on the list in three cities as it continues to promote its “Eat Fresh Refresh,” while CTV was once again a top-ten advertiser in each English-language market.
Categorically, dine-in restaurants were among the most active, landing in the top ten across all seven markets. Travel-related brands such as travel agencies, tourism boards and airlines fell off from their dominant position of the last few weeks, though the likes of Air Transat and Air Canada still maintained a respectable presence in several markets. Online travel agencies were also among the most active advertiser categories in five cities.
