HelloFresh has joined with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to take Buddy the Elf off the shelf and put him into limited-edition holiday meal kits.
The promotion for WBD’s Elf film debuted last year in the U.S. and proved a sensation, selling out in minutes, according to the company. This year, the promo is extended and expanded, activating in Canada with Elf-themed kits bundled with keepsakes to promote film’s 20th anniversary and recipes for people to make at home.
HelloFresh is promoting the boxes with digital advertising via all HelloFresh social media channels and an influencer campaign that will see Canadian social media personalities offering product reviews. The initiative was developed internally alongside the U.S. HelloFresh team and Warner Bros. Discovery. In Canada, KC Media is handling PR.
The spaghetti kit boxes will be released to the public on Dec. 4 and the “Buddy the Elf Jolly Eats” recipes are available Dec. 2 to Dec. 15. The company is releasing the kits to consumers without requiring a Hello Fresh subscription for purchase.
The advertising is running until Dec. 15.
The spaghetti kit evokes the syrupy, candy-topped spaghetti beloved by Buddy the Elf in the film. The kit features spaghetti and an array of kid-friendly toppings like maple syrup, chocolate syrup, marshmallows, chocolate nonpareil candies and chocolate frosted pastries. The keepsakes that come with the include two aprons resembling Buddy’s signature green suit, two portioned melamine plates and a resealable plastic bag for packing spaghetti for lunch.
