Hasbro is teaming up with Reebok to roll out a Monopoly-inspired men’s lifestyle footwear collection this fall. The launch coincides with the release of Hasbro’s Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition, on which three Canadian cities, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, are featured, as covered by MiC.
‘Monopoly has global recognition as one of the most iconic board games of all time, and Reebok is excited to be able to translate this fun into footwear,’ says Reebok head of lifestyle product marketing Christian Stegmaier.
The design team at Reebok took cues from Monopoly game pieces in creating the shoes, which will be released to retail stores in two waves – the first in early September and the second in November.
‘We have a strong fan following for Monopoly, and now consumers can wear what they play in high style,’ says Hasbro SVP of licensing Bryony Bouyer.
Given the marketing finesse with which the release of the Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition was announced, MiC was surprised to be told that virtually nothing is being done to introduce the new Monopoly-inspired shoes, which will be available for a suggested retail price of $99.99.
Reebok normally engages in product placements in print properties, but at this point no advertising space has been purchased for the launch of the Monopoly shoe collection, Jessica Starkey, a Reebok spokesperson, told MiC.
