If fame could come to Jennifer Hudson after she didn’t quite win American Idol, why shouldn’t roughly the same thing happen to a Canadian Idol loser?
It just might happen to country music singer Tara Oram. After failing to become a Canadian Idol last summer, she landed her own series on Corus Entertainment’s CMT channel as well as a shot at online celebrity. Debuting Sunday, July 20 at 9 pm for a six-week run, The Tara Diaries will document Oram’s attempt to build a professional singing career.
Thanks to MyCMT.com, family, friends and fans will be able to log on and follow Oram’s journey. ‘For the first time, viewers will be invited to participate real-time in an artist’s career decisions,’ says CMT Canada programming VP Ted Ellis. ‘Through online polls, the fans will help determine results – like Tara’s final CD cover or video treatment at the end of each episode.’
In a popularity-ensuring twist, fans will also be able to submit their own original songs on the website, where the best song – based on online voting – may be featured on Oram’s first album. Behind-the-scenes extras and personal notes from the singer will also be featured on the site.
Spoiler alert: Oram ends up signing with Open Road Recordings, whose singing stable includes Doc Walker, Johnny Reid and The Road Hammers.
