Orphan Black debut sets record for Space

The Canadian cloning drama got a good lead-in from the return of Doctor Who as it drew 404,000 viewers for its Saturday night bow.

Space’s new Orphan Black series drew 404,000 viewers for its debut Saturday night.

That made the sci-fi series the highest-rated original series premiere ever for the channel.

The Tatiana Maslany-starring cloning drama got a good lead-in from the return of Doctor Who at 8 p.m., as it averaged 654,000 viewers, according to BBM Canada numbers provided by Bell Media.

Space said almost 900,000 viewers watched some or all of Orphan Black, and its debut alongside the return of Dr. Who turbocharged visits to Space.ca on Saturday.
