Extras, in which Ricky Gervais – co-creator of the original Britcom version of The Office – creates havoc as a woefully inept bit part movie actor, will premiere on The Comedy Network on Jan. 22 at 10 pm ET/PT. Season one of the six-part, half-hour BBC/HBO import comedy will be followed by season two on March 4 in the same time slot.
Playing themselves in the comedy series are Hollywood stars Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller, Samuel L. Jackson, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen and Daniel Radcliffe, as well as rockers David Bowie and Chris Martin. Gervais portrays a 40-something actor who gave up his day job to pursue movie fame only to find he couldn’t land any substantial parts. His resentment about being denied the fame he (wrongly) feels he deserves prompts – to put it mildly – a lot of misbehaviour.
