BBM Overview: New PPM ratings

Bray & Partners president David Bray breaks down which radio stations are on top in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal and Calgary.

Winter’s chill may not be gone but things are starting to heat up with today’s release of the latest PPM radio ratings. This release from BBM completes the 13-week period covering Nov. 25, 2013 to Feb. 23, 2014. Let’s take a look at some of the numbers for the five PPM markets.

Toronto: Bragging rights at the top of the ratings heap go to CHFI-FM with a 17.6% share of hours tuned for A12+ (up from 16% last time out). CHFI-FM takes the #1 spot with the ladies 25 to 54 delivering a 25.8% share (down from 26.5%) followed by CHUM-FM delivering a 16.7% share (down from 18.3%). CHFI, getting a boost from its Christmas music format leading up to the holiday, also holds the top spot for males 25 to 54, posting a 11.1% share (up from 8.9% in the last 13-week book) followed by Q107 with 9.2% (flat with the previous book). CHFI leads the way for males 18 to 34 with a 12.7% share followed by the Edge at 9.3% (down from 16%).  Making it a clean sweep, for females 18 to 34, CHFI-FM tops the list posting a 27.3% (down from 29.2%) share.

Vancouver: CBC Radio One once again grabs the #1 spot for A12+ with a 13% share of hours tuned (up from 11.4% last time out). Taking the top spot for females 25 to 54 was QMFM, getting help from its Christmas music format in December, posting a 17.4% share (up from 14.2% last time out). QMFM also holds the lead for male 25 to 54 listeners, delivering an 11.7 % share (up from 10.6%).  JR Country is out in front for men 18 to 34 with a 13.9% share of hours tuned followed closely by the FOX with 13.4% (down from 14.2%). When it comes to women 18 to 34, The Beat takes top spot with a 23.2% (down from 21.6% share in the last book).

Edmonton: CHED rules the roost for A12+ posting a 9.8% share of hours tuned (down from 10.1%). NOW! Radio takes top spot for females 25 to 54, delivering a 13.4% share (down from 15.3%). CHED tops the list for men 25 to 54 with an 11.6% share (down from 12%). For men 18 to 34, NOW! posted an 11.4% (down from 13.3%) followed by CISN-FM at 10.3% and Sonic 102.9 with an 8.2% share (down from 10.3%).

Calgary: CBC Radio One leads the way for A12+ with an 11.4% share (down from 11.5%). Country 105 remains popular with the ladies, taking #1 spot for females 25 to 54 delivering a 16.8% share (up from 16.7%). For men 25 to 54, CJAY92 leads the way with a 10.2% share (down from 11.3%). CJAY92 takes top spot for males 18 to 34 with a 12.6% share (down from 15.2%). Country 105 is #1 for females 18 to 34 posting a 23.2% share (down from 30.7%).

Montreal: CHMP 98.5 FM is #1 for A12+ with a 16.2% share (down from 18%). CFGL-FM 105.7 Rythme FM is tops with the ladies, taking #1 spot for females 25 to 54 delivering an 18.6% share (up from 18.1%). For men 25 to 54, CHMP 98.5FM leads the way with a 17.3% share (down from a 21.4%). CHOM-FM is #1 for men 18 to 34 with a 16.7% share. CFGL-FM 105.7 Rythme FM is #1 for females 18 to 34 with an 18.4% share.
