Snowboarder’s season begins with reality series

Snowboarders still waiting for the chance to hit the slopes this winter may find some relief, or maybe just a tease, in G4TechTV Canada's new reality series. The Block features a snowboarding star who aims to grow a hotel chain for catering to the snowboarder's lifestyle. Smoking or non-smoking room? Queen bed or two twins? Stripper pole or beer-proof floor?

G4TechTV Canada’s The Block is set to hit the reality TV scene with a little something for the snowboarding crowd – hardcore riding on the slopes, hip-hop celebrities and impromptu fight scenes – when it premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 pm.

The half-hour show features snowboarding star Montoya (who also runs a skateboard company and commands crowds as a hip-hop DJ), who founded the show’s namesake hotel with help from a Las Vegas hotelier. Every episode will feature up-and-coming hip-hop and R&B acts. Other draws include ongoing Fight Club events held outside the hotel.

G4techTV Canada, which bills itself as the 24-hour net plugged into every dimension of games, gear, gadgets and gigabytes, targets teens 13-17 and young adults 18-34. The net is co-owned by Comcast and Rogers Media. Canadian advertisers can sponsor the program via billboards or on-air spots.
