Canadian marketers can expect to score soccer fans via the multiplatform opportunities TSN and RDS are planning for the UEFA European Football Championship 2008. The prestigious continental soccer battle set record ratings of 1.5 million English and French viewers for CTV, TSN and RDS in 2004, back when Adidas, Carlsberg, JVC, Castrol, Mazda and Molson were major sponsors. This time around, coverage will include extensive broadband, mobile video, VOD and interactive TV for all 31 matches, taking place from June 7 to 29 in Austria and Switzerland.
Sponsor-friendly specials include a highlights show on match day, EURO 2008 Final Draw, magazine programs, and unlimited encores across both networks and media platforms. TSN will also televise pre-game and post-game shows.
TSN has aired the past five EURO tournaments, dating back to the 1988 event in Germany, while RDS has had exclusive French coverage since EURO 1996. TSN and RDS have been televising the popular UEFA Champions League matches – the world’s premier international club competition – for more than a decade. TSN’s coverage this year includes 37 games, from the group stage all the way to the final, while RDS is airing 25 matches. Teams representing 16 nations compete in the championship, following a two-year qualifications process that wraps up at the end of 2007.
