A former publisher of The Financial Post and The Toronto Sun, Douglas Knight is the new president of Toronto-based St. Joseph Communications. He recently returned to Toronto from New York, where he served as chairman and CEO of ImpreMedia, the first US-based Spanish-language newspaper chain (including La Opinión in Los Angeles, New York’s El Diario-La Prensa and Chicago’s La Raza).
As publisher of The Financial Post Magazine from 1990 to 1992, Knight led a redesign and repositioning that resulted in an increase in readership of more than 60%. In 1992, he became publisher of The Financial Post newspaper and, after years of losses, led the paper back to profit, doubling ad revenues during his term. Under his leadership from 1997 to 2000, The Toronto Sun was the only major daily in Toronto to record increased paid circulation during the launch of The National Post and the opening round of the great Canadian newspaper war.
St. Joseph Media’s titles include Toronto Life, Fashion Magazine, Wish, Gardening Life, WeddingBells, Mariage Quebec, WHERE Canada, Quill & Quire and Ottawa Magazine. At the end of October, the company announced a strategy to focus on its core brands and suspend publication of Fashion18 and The Look after the upcoming winter issues.
