The Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) has added two new members to its 15-person board, electing John Fulton from Shaw Communications and Shawn Praskey from Corus Entertainment.
Fulton, director, programming and content at Shaw (pictured, right), will serve on the non-profit’s events committee while Praskey, VP, content distribution at Corus Entertainment: B2B (pictured, below, left) will sit on its education committee.
Gary Pelletier, country manager, Canada at Accedo, was reelected as CTAM president in the recent elections, as were board members Drew Robinson, director, content distribution at Shaw Media, and Leslie Fields, director, distribution from AMC Networks.
Pelletier says that this year his organization will focus on helping the industry improve and promote “TV Everwhere,” the strategy of restricting certain broadcast-derived online content to those who have paid cable or internet subscriptions. In November, at a CTAM-sponsored event, the industry heard that TV Everywhere plays an important role in retaining customers but less than 50% of people surveyed by Charlton Strategic Research had even heard of TV Everywhere as a concept.
Pelletier says CTAM and its members plan to address that issue with an awareness campaign, likely in the spring.
In addition, the country’s media companies and distributors have agreed to set industry standards for their “TV Everywhere” products, like Rogers AnyPlace TV, Shaw Go or Bell’s TV Anywhere platforms. Renovating those systems to create a similar experience for customers includes addressing minor details like naming (should it be called log in or sign in?) as well as authentication rules and the length of time a user can be continuously logged in to the service, Pelletier says.
