Global goes big for Dawna

The channel has launched an extensive national multimedia campaign to promote its new 5:30 p.m. newscast anchor

She may be based in Toronto, but Global National’s Dawna Friesen is everywhere right now.

Global has launched a national multimedia campaign to promote the debut of the new 5:30 p.m. newscast anchor. Friesen is replacing longtime anchor Kevin Newman, who announced he was leaving this spring after 10 years with Global National.

The Friesen campaign, which first launched on air on Global and Canwest specialty in late August, is now spanning multimedia channels with print ads in the Toronto Star, National Post and Globe and Mail, as well as regional Postmedia Network papers, radio and traditional OOH in major urban centres, digital superboards in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver and transit stations and shelters.

It is the biggest campaign ever done to promote Global National, the network said in a release today.

‘The size and scope of this launch reinforces Global’s commitment to our national newscast and to introducing Dawna as its new leader,’ Walter Levitt, CMO, Canwest Broadcasting, said in the release.

The campaign was handled in-house by Canwest.
