TSN Radio hits the air April 13

The long-rumoured addition to the AM dial will feature Mike Richards, formerly of the Fan 960, and live coverage of Argos games, golf and soccer.

The rumoured TSN radio station has finally been announced and is coming to the dial in Toronto on April 13.

The all-sports TSN Radio will be available on AM 1050 in the Greater Toronto Area and online at TSN.ca and on TSN Mobile.

Along with announcing the date for the station’s premiere, TSN also announced that the morning drive presenter will be Mike Richards, who was poached in January from Rogers, where he hosted the country’s highest-rated sports morning show on the Fan 960 in Calgary.

TSN Radio 1050, which will be broadcasting out of CTV’s Queen Street building, is a collaboration between TSN and CHUM Radio and will be connected to CHUM’s network of sports stations across Canada.

Chris Gordon, president, Chum Radio, tells MiC there will be radio and online ad opps, building on the existing radio and TV and offerings.

‘Advertisers will be well-served by the strength of the TSN and CHUM Radio brands, along with TSN Radio 1050’s industry-leading programming and on-air broadcast team that will set a new benchmark for sports radio in Canada,’ he says.

The station will feature TSN personalities and live coverage of Toronto Argonauts games, including pre- and post-game shows and a weekly Argos talkshow. It’ll also be the official radio broadcaster for the British Open and US Open golf tournaments, as well as soccer’s Euro 2012 and Euro 2016, which TSN signed on to broadcast on TV earlier this month.

The station will also air two syndicated US shows, the Jim Rome Show and the Dan Patrick Show, and will have exclusive access to ESPN Radio Network programming.
