The CBC announced Friday that Sally Catto has been appointed as executive director, commissioned and scripted programming, effective June 18.

Trevor Walton, who currently holds the position, will become head of co-productions, effective immediately.

Catto will be responsible for drama, comedy, children’s and documentary programming, with an initial focus on reorganizing the department to streamline and update administration and management.

“Sally is one of the country’s most well respected broadcast executives. Sally’s ability to nurture creative potential at its earliest stages, her ongoing commitment to Canadian producers and productions and her track record of successes will make CBC’s already strong commissioned and scripted programming even stronger,” said Kirstine Stewart, EVP CBC English services, in a statement.

“Going thru cuts her vision will help reorg dept, but keep it strong,” Stewart also tweeted Friday afternoon.

Catto was formerly the CBC’s executive director, arts and entertainment, and most recently held the position of EVP at Cineflix Studios.

She will be based in Vancouver, reporting to Stewart.

“Many thx Trevor Walton taking on role head of co-pro, nurturing our international partner relationships, v necessary moving fwd,” Stewart tweeted Friday.

According to a release from the CBC, Walton’s new role will “leverage his experience and complement the new structure.”
