Corus Entertainment’s W Network has inked a deal with Mark Burnett, United Artists Media Group, Omnicon Canada’s Highway Entertainment and Insight Productions to develop a new travel-reality series, with production on a one-hour pilot set to start in August.
At this point, only a pilot for Destination Detour is confirmed. It will be shot in Ontario and is set to air on W Network in 2016. In Destination Detour three couples who think they are about to embark upon a planned dream vacation face a major curve-ball in their plans, with the show following how each couple responds to unexpected circumstances and challenges. The format for Destination Detour is being developed for Canadian and international markets.
United Artists Media Group, a joint venture between MGM, Burnett, Roma Downey and Hearst Corporation, focuses on developing, producing and financing content across all platforms in both the scripted and unscripted space. Omnicon Canada’s Highway Entertainment is the content arm of the media agency, and recently inked first-look deals with a number of Canadian production companies including Digital Howard, Frantic Films and marblemedia.
Recent projects on Insight Productions’ slate include the summertime format hit The Amazing Race Canada and spring’s Big Brother Canada. Sponsors on now-airing third season of The Amazing Race Canada include BMO Financial Group, Air Canada, Chevrolet, Dairy Queen, Mentos and Petro-Canada.
