Kelly Clark named global CEO at GroupM

The former North American lead takes over effective immediately.

Kelly Clark has been named global CEO at GroupM.

Clark was North American CEO at the owner group from 2012 to 2015 before stepping down last fall for what he said were kellyClarkpersonal reasons. During his year away spent time with this family while also supporting Brian Lesser’s transition to the role of CEO for GroupM North America, according to a GroupM representative. He also lent strategic support and remained highly engaged with the business and key clients.

He is the first global CEO for GroupM since Irwin Gotlieb held the post before moving to the role of chairman in 2012.

Also announced today, global president Dominic Proctor who has held the role since 2012, is stepping down. Proctor has a long history with GroupM, having launched Mindshare around the world in 1997. He will remain with GroupM to work on strategic projects, according to a release on the move.

GroupM’s global leadership change comes alongside a few senior promotions at one of its agencies, Maxus.

Dan Benedict has been promoted from managing partner to worldwide chief client officer and Pam Sullivan is adding worldwide chief talent officer to her current remit as managing director of Maxus Los Angeles.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Dominic Proctor was the former global CEO, but there hasn’t been someone in that role since 2012 when Irwin Gotlieb held the post. MiC regrets the error.
