Corus Entertainment has announced a trio of high-profile departures, with SVP of women and lifestyle content John MacDonald and SVP, brands and marketing Susan Schaefer set to exit the company. A spokesperson for Corus also confirmed that Amy Sutton, director of programming, women and family has left the company.
According to an internal note from CEO Doug Murphy provided to MiC‘s sister publication Playback Daily, earlier this year MacDonald made the decision to move back to the U.S., where he lived and worked for two decades before he joined Corus in 2012.
With MacDonald’s impending departure (he will be available throughout the summer to assist with the transition, read the internal note), Corus has named Daniel Eves as SVP of specialty networks. The Toronto media company’s specialty content and digital teams will now report to Eves, who previously served as SVP, kids and general entertainment content.
Katie Wilson, Shauna Smith and Jennifer Abrams, who oversee Corus’ kids, drama and lifestyle channels, respectively, will all report to Eves.
Susan Schaefer, SVP, brands and marketing is also set to exit the company. She too will be available to aid with the transition over the summer, according to the memo.
The internal memo also said that Corus has “made the decision to further integrate and align our marketing teams” around three content pillars: lifestyle, kids and drama. As such, Shelley Findlay, VP of marketing and lifestyle and Anne Kane Jeffries, VP of marketing, drama and kids will also report to Eves.
Jim Johnson, VP of marketing, global network and radio, will report to Maria Hale, SVP of global entertainment and content acquisition. Johnson will also assume responsibility of the media planning team, which is led by Scott MacLeod.
