Retail, travel, restos rule radio buys: Media Monitors

Sail and RedTag took Toronto and Montreal as the top buyers, respectively.

Outdoor retailer Sail purchased 792 radio spots in Toronto last week, making it the most prominent radio buyer in the city.

That’s according to the latest Media Monitors charts, which measure the period between Dec. 31 and Jan. 6.

Sail had previously sat at #5. Also making a moderate jump was second-place buyer, Sunwing, up from #6. That was followed by new entrant 1-800-Got-Junk, then MADD Canada (up from #10) and QuickBooks (up from #14).

Also new to the top-10 was discount grocer FreshCo, which came to #9.

For categories, travel services took a total of 1,905 spots, making it the biggest category for radio advertising last week.

In Montreal, another travel service, RedTag.ca, inched up to the top spot with a total of 281 spots purchased.

It was followed by CTV, up from #4. Retailer Gibby’s also climbed up, landing at #3 (from #13). Bell Media’s SVOD, Crave, shot way up to #4 from #53, and Accent Insurance Solutions rounded out the top-five (up from #17).

Also making a new buy was NBC, coming in at #10.

In Montreal, the restaurants and night clubs category grew its presence, purchasing 750 spots and becoming the biggest buying category in the city.
