A host of brands kick up their radio buys: Media Monitors

The Toronto and Montreal markets had advertisers from across categories increase their play counts.

As we move into the holiday season, a number of advertisers have begun new radio pushes in both Toronto and Montreal, according to Media Monitors data for the week of Nov. 8 to 14.

While the CAA maintained its top spot in Toronto from last week, Ford and Capital One slipped down to sixth and ninth, respectively, making room for a number of new brands: The Bay (which just kicked off its holiday campaign), Planet Fitness, Telus and Speedy Glass. GoDaddy and Shoppers Drug Mart also increased buys from last week to jump into the top ten.

It was a similar story in Montreal, though not to the same degree. While the Government of Quebec was once again the most active radio advertiser, and Virgin Plus dipped only slightly from second to the third, the top ten list had new entries from the likes of Hyundai, Bell, Honda and Corbeil.

Sephora also entered the lists by rounding out the top ten in both cities.

Categorically, ads for business and consumer services had the biggest presence in Toronto, followed by public service ads, ads for banks and financial institutions, and ads for auto parts and services. In Montreal, government ads were the most active category, followed by wireless carriers and automakers.
