The Oscars win with viewers: Numeris

The awards show dominated the ratings nationally and in almost every English market.

The 94th Academy Awards was the top-rated program in Canada according to Numeris data for the week of March 21 to March 27.

Audiences around the world were shocked when Oscar-nominee and eventual Oscar-winner Will Smith slapped Chris Rock live on stage. In Canada, 3.269 million viewers across the country tuned in to CTV’s broadcast, up from 2.26 million viewers last year.

Despite this year’s uptick, viewership numbers overall continue to trend downward when compared to the Oscars’ last pre-pandemic broadcast in February 2020, which brought in 4.8 million viewers.

The awards show was the highest-rated program in every other English market, with the exception of Edmonton, where Hockey Night In Canada took the top spot.

In Quebec, Star académie 2022 – Le variété held the top spot in the Francophone market with 1.417 million viewers.
