Digital music service Qobuz is expanding on its partnership with Quebecor as it readies its Canadian launch.
The service will replace Quebecor’s existing QUB Musique when it launches this May, though the branding will still exist within Qobuz as a source of editorial content and curated playlists for Quebec artists. The QUB Musique catalogue will be incorporated into Qobuz, and current QUB subscribers will be offered a preferred monthly rate when they transfer their subscriptions to Qobuz.
Qobuz, founded in France in 2007, is a music streaming service based around high sound quality, a premium listening experience and accompanying editorial content. Canada will be the seventh market where it will be available.
Quebecor and Qobuz have a longstanding partnership: Quebecor has been a shareholder in the service since 2019, and the two collaborated and sharing expertise to launch QUB Musique in 2020. For Qobuz, deputy CEO Georges Fornay says expanding the partnership helps the company strengthen its presence in the Canadian market. For Quebecor, VP for digital content Mathieu Turbide says the launch will help the company with its mission of putting the spotlight on Quebec talent.
