Governments return to buying big: AdEase Radio

Subway and Tim Hortons, however, helped QSRs be the most active advertiser category across most markets.

Provincial governments are once again the most active advertiser in most major radio markets, according to AdEase data for the week of March 6 to 12 – though not quite all of them.

The Government of Ontario increased its buy in Toronto and Ottawa behind ads promoting new services offered by pharmacists, while the Government of Quebec once again held on to its top spot in Montreal. In Calgary and Edmonton, the Government of Alberta was number one in a top six that remained unchanged in both cities.

It wasn’t all governments at the top, however. In Quebec City, the Quebec International Auto Show was the top radio advertiser. In Vancouver, Subway held on to its top spot from the previous week.

Categorically, QSRs returned to being the most active advertiser category across markets, except for Montreal, where it was second behind government ads. This was helped by Subway maintaining a strong buy behind promoting its newest sandwiches and Tim Hortons beginning a new push behind this year’s “Roll Up to Win” contest.

All figures based on total play counts. Number in brackets is the previous week’s rankings; (NC) denotes no change, (-) denotes an advertiser/category that did not rank the previous week.
