Spotify makes it easier to turn radio broadcasts into podcasts

The broadcast-to-podcast tool is fully automated, but also allows for customized ad breaks and dynamic insertion.

Spotify is now offering broadcast-to-podcast technology, an automated tool that enables publishers to produce podcasts from previously broadcasted radio content.

The service is available within Megaphone, Spotify’s podcast publishing, monetization and audience platform. It is based on technology previously developed by Whooshkaa, which Spotify acquired in 2021.

After a one-time setup process, broadcast-to-podcast automatically creates new podcast episodes from previously broadcasted content. Ad marker locations are automatically identified, but there is the flexibility to either replace or remove the identified ad locations based on their placement in the broadcast stream. Ads can be dynamically re-inserted for additional monetization, or old ad locations can be replaced with other content.

Publishers can also integrate Megaphone’s monetization tools, including the Spotify Audience Network, which helps publishers monetize unsold inventory.
