First reported in January this year, 369 Global, a group of companies that provides skills training and workforce development for global citizens, has partnered with SJC Media to launch a publication dedicated to highlighting successful New Canadians. The magazine is set to launch in September 2024, but aside from that details were scarce when the news was first released.
Now the publishing partners are filling in some of the blanks, including the new magazine title: 3.
Why 3? Because the new magazine will celebrate Third Culture Individuals (TCIs) and “the culturally curious alike, a testament to those born in one place but enriched by the experiences of numerous others,” according to a statement.
The 3 team has also been announced: Muraly Srinarayanathas, co-founder and executive chairman of 369 Global, is co-founder and publisher of the magazine. At the helm of 3‘s content and editorial strategy are Stacy Lee Kong, editor-in-chief, Sasha Emmons, VP of branded and custom content for SJC Media and Paul Ferriss, director of editorial and creative for SJC Media’s Custom Content division.
“For a long time, I’ve been passionate about launching a publication to tell stories that reflect the full spectrum of the newcomer experience and celebrate Canada’s diverse population,” says Srinarayanathas. According to its research 68% of Canadian newcomers read magazines on a regular basis — and 38% are used to purchasing a print edition.
Cameron Williamson, VP client solutions for SJC, previously told MiC that the publication will have three main goals: To put a spotlight on successful newcomers; switch the views other Canadians have of newcomers; and link immigrants with opportunities. “We don’t see it as a full resource. It’s for… people looking to buy a car or a home, people who need a new bank.”
The magazine (and its website) will be a custom publication funded by 369 Global, with advertising and a limited newsstand presence. Copies will be distributed via Canada Post’s targeting program, paid subscriptions, newsstand sales at the top four Canadian retailers for magazines and select independents, and through strategic partnerships and events.
