Amazon Music set to launch series in partnership with Parks Canada

Northern Echoes will feature artists from across the country, while exploring national historic sites and parks.

Amazon Music Canada has partnered with Parks Canada to launch a new series that highlights emerging Canadian artists.

Northern Echoes, according to the companies, is “the first-of-its-kind content series” that invites emerging musicians from remote Canadian communities to apply for the opportunity to have their music featured in a new Amazon Music video series and released as Amazon Music Originals.

Each episode of the show will be shot at a national historic site, park or marine conservation area managed by Parks Canada, and will delve into the experiences of artists growing up in their community and the impact it has had on their musical career.

The series will launch this fall, first on Amazon Music Canada’s Instagram channel, with full-length versions set to be released later this fall on Amazon Music’s YouTube channel. Amazon is accepting applications from now until September. Once the applications have been reviewed, a panel of judges comprised of industry experts and media representatives will determine the finalists to be featured throughout the series.

Northern Echoes isn’t just a series about music; it’s a celebration of the untamed Canadian landscape and the power of art to connect people from all walks of life,” said John Murphy, head of Amazon Music and podcasts in Canada. “As the show comes to life, Amazon Music will provide a global stage for local Canadian artists and communities, while celebrating some of Canada’s most breathtaking landscapes.”

Amazon, which brokered the partnership internally, is teaming up with Parks Canada after Prime Video began airing ads earlier this year. According to the company, the decision to introduce ads to its programming was meant to allow it to increase investment in content. A Prime subscription includes entertainment and streaming content, including Amazon Music.
