Mediology’s MapleReach aims to keep digital ad spend in Canada

The Vancouver-based media group says 93% of funds go to U.S.-based tech giants.

According to Vancouver-based media group Mediology, 93% of Canadian digital ad spend leaves the country, with most funds funneled to U.S.-based tech giants.

Mediology says this trend threatens the vitality of Canadian publishers and erodes local economic support. In response, the media group says it’s introducing MapleReach as a cost-effective alternative that empowers brands to invest in Canada’s digital ecosystem, the media group says.

Mediology calls MapleReach a programmatic media solution that allows brands to advertise across Canadian websites at scale, targeting Canadians and supporting local publishers. The solution, Mediology says, keeps advertising dollars within Canada while supporting local journalism and Canadian jobs.

“It’s a staggering stat and why we’re so proud to introduce MapleReach,” says Zac Goodman, partner and chief strategy officer at Mediology. “Canadians deserve to see ads that reflect their communities, and we’re offering a solution that not only helps brands reach their audience effectively but also ensures that Canadian publishers thrive. We’ve created a way to keep ad dollars in Canada, helping to foster local growth.”

According to Mediology, MapleReach is built on two key pillars. The first is a digital buying strategy, wherein Mediology’s established partnerships with Canadian media brands allow for the real-time, programmatic purchasing of Canadian inventory at scale, ensuring ads are shown on reputable Canadian websites.

The other pillar is an audience verification tool, which is designed to reach genuine Canadians while avoiding fraudulent clicks and bot traffic, Mediology says.

“With MapleReach, we’re ushering in a new era of digital advertising in Canada,” Goodman says. “It’s one that prioritizes local publishers, Canadian jobs and authentic engagement. As the political and economic landscape evolves, more brands are asking how they can shift their media spend to support Canadian businesses.”

Mediology is one of Western Canada’s largest independent media groups, with five offices in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan.
