Independent French-language daily newspaper, Le Devoir, has added a new member to its sales team, hiring Richard Nguyen as director of sales and media solutions.
Nguyen will manage a team of 10 handling local Quebec sales, also working alongside M32 Media and Groupe Capitales Médias (GCM) for national sales (Le Devoir partnered with GCM earlier this year with the goal of increasing its presence among national advertisers). Nguyen tells MiC that while his role encompasses local sales for both print and digital, his focus will largely be on digital sales growth for Le Devoir.
Nguyen has nearly a decade of experience in the digital media space, previously holding positions as business development director and later sales director at divine.ca, national account manager at BV Media, senior account executive at Ad Splash Media and, most recently, senior account executive at Infopresse.
While there is still a “big place for print,” Nguyen notes that digital is the way of the future, referencing fellow Quebec newspaper, La Presse, which announced it’s plans to go completely digital last year.
