Radio gets a boost from QSRs: Media Monitors

Fast casual restaurants increased their presence in both Toronto and Montreal.

Automotive dealers cut back their radio presence in Toronto last week, which made for a shakeup on Media Monitors’ weekly rankings of top-spending categories and advertisers in the city.

Fast casual/QSR restaurant brands ran more than 2,300 spots in Toronto between Nov. 30 and Dec. 6, up from about 1,600 the week prior, beating out business and consumer services and government-union advertiser categories.

The Government of Canada was the most prolific individual radio advertiser, followed by frequent ranking leader Goodfood and OLG.

Fast casual restaurants also increased their presence in Montreal, jumping to second place from third by adding about 200 ads to the rotation. The provincial and federal governments were the most active advertisers on radio in the market, followed by McDonald’s.

Both Toronto and Montreal saw an overall increase in ad plays among their top five accounts.
