Even when Canadian teams aren’t playing, this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs have been a big ratings draw, according to Numeris data for May 30 to June 5.
The final game of the playoffs’ second round – featuring the New York Rangers putting away the Carolina Hurricanes in game seven – had an AMA of 1.078 million for Sportsnet.
The remaining games of the week – which covered the opening games of the Conference Finals, and featured the Edmonton Oilers facing off against the Colorado Avalanche in the West and Tampa Bay Lightning against the Rangers in the East – had an AMA of 1.201 million across six nights on Sportsnet.
Due to the way Numeris logged Sportsnet’s hockey broadcasts, the singular round-two matchup of the week was counted as a single-night broadcast, and is included in the listings below. The round three games – counted as multi-night broadcasts – are not included.
Summer-favourite unscripted shows also made their presence known in the ratings, with America’s Got Talent, Masterchef and Masterchef Junior all reaching the top-rated programs nationally. CTV’s coverage of the Ontario provincial election rounded out the top five.
In Quebec, TVA’s Un zoo pas comme les autres was the most-watched French show for yet another week.
