Family dinners and 90’s fashion among Pinterest trends for this summer

The company's latest report provides a glimpse of the most popular searches over the last year in the app.

Pinterest users will be on the lookout for 90’s and 2000’s-inspired looks, vintage-style home décor, and celebration dinners to share with family this summer, according to the platform’s most recent trends report.

The “Summer 2024 Trend Report” shows the English terms most used by people looking for ideas on Pinterest between April 2023 and April this year.

The study found that 90’s and 2000’s beauty is becoming increasingly popular among users, and will be a major trend in the coming months. Searches for “90’s makeup look” and “2000’s makeup” have increased by 270% and 580%, respectively, since last year. Searches for rock and roll styles, alternative outfits, bold prints and unconventional silhouettes have also become popular on the site.

“Pinterest users are nostalgic for the iconic beauty trends of the 90’s and 2000’s from bold makeup looks to edgy hairstyles… By embracing 90’s and 2000’s beauty, individuals can pay homage to the past while putting a fresh and contemporary spin on classic looks,” said the company.

Home décor-related content has also been a trend, particularly when it comes to vintage style. Searches for “dopamine décor” and “vintage eclectic home” have climbed by 280% and 1418%, respectively. According to Pinterest, users are craving spaces with color, comfort and character that reflect their personalities. They are drawn to vintage décor as it conveys a sense of nostalgia while evoking a sense of joy.

The report also showed that people are turning to the platform to plan their summer social activities and entertainment, with searches for tea parties and themed dinners on the rise. The new season of the Bridgerton series is inspiring users to search for tea party recipes and floral decorations, Pinterest said. The search for “Bridgerton tea party,” for example, has increased 430% in the past year.

Other related searches such as “dinner party” have also increased more than 6000%, as people are looking to spend more time at home with family and friends.

Finally, Pinterest found that the app continues to be a destination for discovering new recipes. Users are using it to get ideas for “fun things to cook” and “summer special recipes.” Those searches increased by 1060% and 135%, respectively.

“This summer is all about new twists on staple, healthy summer ingredients such as mango or avocado, reinvented sourdough recipes or exciting new tea drinks as the ultimate summer sip,” said the company.
