Telus crawls in with magnetic geckos

A new OOH campaign introduces this quarter's new Telus critter at bus shelters in three cities across the nation.

From the ‘everything old is new again’ files, Telus is bringing back tried-and-true magnetvertising – the original sticky messaging.

As part of its latest out-of-home marketing stunt Telus’ Future Friendly Home team is invading bus shelters across Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton this month with magnet geckos, once the Clearnet mascot before Telus acquired the co. The clingy messages targeting the 25-to-54 demo are part of a campaign by Taxi and Media Experts to invite commuters to visit the Telus.com site to learn more about our its landline, TV and Internet products.

Passersby can pick up a magnet gecko on back of which reads ‘Bundle and save on the sure-footed network. You’ll be gripped,’ with links to Telus packages and services.

‘The goal and strategy of this campaign is to invite consumers to take a piece of the Telus brand home with them,’ says Rachael Mens, senior manager of communications marketing at Telus. ‘We’ve taken a traditional medium and turned it into something new and different for consumers. Plus, the magnetic gecko sticking to the transit shelter ad is a great metaphor for the campaign’s message: It’s still a Telus critter but in a different form than the Gund.’
