Rogers Media has unveiled the programming slate for FXX Canada, the new specialty channel launching on Apr. 1.
The younger-skewing comedy-focused extension of FX Canada will feature FX original series, acquired movies and series, and original Canadian programs. FXX is aimed at a younger 18-to-34 demo, while FX Canada targets adults 25 to 54. The Canadian channel’s debut lineup includes established comedies like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, HBO’s Eastbound & Down, The League, Legit and Wilfred.
New series making their Canadian debut on the network include Ali G: Rezurection, featuring new introductions and never-before-seen episodes of Sacha Baron Cohen’s seminal series Da Ali G Show, premiering Wednesday Apr. 2 at 10 p.m. Chozen, an animated comedy starring Saturday Night Live‘s Bobby Moynihan as the voice of a gay white rapper fresh out of prison, bows Monday Apr. 7 at 10 p.m. Also making its series premiere is Fargo (pictured), an adaptation of the Coen brothers’ Oscar-winning film shot in Canada. The black comedy starring Billy Bob Thornton features an all-new “true crime” story set in Minnesota and is set to premiere Tuesday Apr. 15 at 10 p.m.
At launch, FXX Canada will also broadcast episodes of Seed and Package Deal, Canadian series originally developed by Rogers-owned City.
Rogers Media will also launch the FXNOW Canada video player and app on Apr. 1 that will feature program coming from both FX Canada and FXX Canada. The ad-supported app – available to FX Canada and FXX Canada subscribers on the web, tablets and smartphones, and compatible with Android and iOS – will feature pre-roll and mid-roll video ads.
