The Toronto Star has released new user data for its Star Touch app, with an announcement that it has hit 200,000 downloads.
Publisher John Cruickshank said in a note on TheStar.com, that although all news products are operating under constraints in today’s environment, jumps in use, frequency and time spent on Star Touch has led his team to believe the app is “a winner.”
Star Touch is averaging 45,000 user sessions on weekdays and above 50,000 on weekends. Users are predominantly located in the GTA and are averaging between 25 and 30 minutes a day on the app.
The number of advertisers on the app was up 16% in January compared with December, according to numbers from the Star Media Group.
Last month the Star Media Group announced a series of cuts, including the closing of its longtime Vaughan, ON-based printing plant and editorial and production cuts in its Toronto office.
