Facebook’s second quarter ad revenue was bolstered by gains on mobile, according to numbers released by the company yesterday.
Mobile ad revenue reached $5.2 billion for the quarter, up 81% year-over-year. Overall, mobile accounted for 84% of total ad revenue, up from 76% for the same quarter in 2015.
The U.S. and Canada, grouped together in the report, was the fastest growing region for ad revenue in the second quarter with growth of 69%. Ad revenue for the region came in at $3 billion for the second quarter of 2016, up from $1.8 billion for the same period in 2015.
Overall revenue for the second quarter grew by 59% to $6.4 billion, up from $4 billion in 2015.
Facebook daily and monthly users were up for the quarter; average daily users jumped to just over 1 billion globally for Q2, up from 844 million in 2015. For the U.S. and Canada the number moved up to 175 million this year from 164 million for the same three months in 2015.
Average monthly users also grew, moving up to 1.7 billion from 1.4 billion for the same period in 2015. In the U.S. and Canada that number moved up to 226 million this year from 213 million in 2015.
The majority of Facebook’s monthly users are visiting the platform on mobile, growing to 1.5 billion for Q2 2016, from 1.3 billion in 2015.
Facebook’s other platforms also reported user growth, with Instagram now having more than 500 monthly active users, and Messenger recently reporting one billion users on the app each month.
