Interpublic Group (IPG) has acquired Acxiom Marketing Solutions for more than $2 billion.
Announced July 2, the acquisition will see Acxiom, a global database marketing company (based in Arkansas), become part of the IPG portfolio, allowing the holding company to utilize information yielded from approximately 2.2 billion consumers worldwide.
According to IPG, the acquisition will enable the company to “design, build, manage and unify the foundation of marketing data” across its data, analytics, media buying and planning operations.
Valued at $2.3 billion, the global deal was unanimously approved by both company’s boards of directors, and will see Acxiom remain a standalone division within IPG’s Mediabrands family of agencies, which also includes UM, Media Experts and Initiative.
Dennis Self and Rick Erwin will remain co-presidents, reporting to IPG’s chief data and marketing technology officer, Arun Kumar. Its 2,100 employees will also move over to IPG.
The transaction is expected to close before the year’s end, subject to approval by Acxiom’s stockholders.
