Following its headline-generating Primetime Emmy nomination last week, CTV’s Degrassi: The Next Generation got even more good news late yesterday when BBM Canada overnight data pegged the season premiere at an 11% increase over last year.
The one-hour episode, which aired Tuesday night at 9 p.m. on MuchMusic, kicked off the 11th season for the teen series, earning 175,000 viewers in the 12-to-34 demographic.
It also earned the title of most-watched non-sports specialty program in the same demographic, the network said.
The series premiere marked the second season in which Degrassi will follow a telenovela-style programming format, in which a new episode will air Monday to Thursday nights at 9 p.m. The new-episode run will continue through to Sept. 1.
