TSN brings Ron Burgundy to Winnipeg

The channel is partnering with Will Ferrell, star of Paramount Pictures' Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues to have his character call live action during the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings curling tournament.

TSN has a new in-game host this December, with Will Ferrell coming to Winnipeg as Ron Burgundy, his character in the upcoming Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues to call part of the opening draw of the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings curling tournament. News of the faux broadcaster joining the upcoming event was announced during last night’s broadcast of the Grey Cup.

The tournament starts on Saturday Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. on TSN runs until the finals on Dec. 7 and 8 the following weekend, with the winner of the event going on to compete for Canada at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Burgundy will call part of the opening event on Dec. 1.

Greg McIsaac, director of communications, TSN and Bell Media Sports, tells MiC the partnership between Bell Media and Paramount Pictures started because Ferrell’s team wanted to promote the upcoming movie’s release in Canada and thought the idea of tying him to a curling match was a humorous fit.

Paramount Pictures is also running an ad buy for the movie, which opens on Dec. 20 in Canada, around the tournament, adds McIsaac.
