Sir Lucian Grainge to be honoured at Cannes
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity announced its Media Person of the Year, naming Sir Lucian Grainge as the recipient. Grainge is the Universal Music Group chairman and CEO and the first music executive to be recognized since the award launched in 1999. He is widely credited with laying a foundation that led to growth in the music industry after more than a decade of decline. The award will be given to Grainge on Wednesday June 21, 2017, during the festival.
Ads, active users up at Facebook in Q1
Facebook’s Q1 results showed ad revenue and monthly active users were up year-over-year compared with the same period in 2016. Ad revenue for the quarter in U.S. and Canada was $3.8 billion, compared with $2.6 billion in 2016. However, ad revenue did drop from the fourth quarter of 2016, when it came in at $4.4 billion for U.S. and Canada. Daily and monthly active users were up year-over-year. The daily active user number was 182 million for U.S. and Canada in Q1 of 2017 versus 173 million for the same period in 2016. Monthly active users for Q1 2017 was 234 million versus 222 million in Q1 2016.
Ideon Media signs Scary Mommy and New York Media
Toronto-based ideon Media has announced Canadian representation deals with the millennial mom-targeting Scary Mommy as well as the collection of New York Media sites (Vulture, TheCut and NYMag). According to March 2017 Canadian comScore numbers provided by ideon Media, Scary Mommy had 914,000 unique visitors, NyMag had 683,000, Vulture had 652,000 and TheCut had 343,000.
