Global is adding a new Canadian original series to its midseason lineup.
Departure, a six-part drama series starring industry veteran Christopher Plummer (pictured) and The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi, will air on Global’s 2019 winter primetime schedule.
Dubbed a “conspiracy series” by Global, Departure centres around the mysterious disappearance of a passenger plane flying over the Atlantic Ocean. The program will join previously announced 2019 originals including new drama Nurses and returning shows Mary Kills People, Private Eyes, Ransom and Big Brother Canada.
Departure was created by Canadian writer Vincent Shiao, co-produced by Shaftesbury and the U.K.’s Greenpoint Productions and directed by T.J. Scott – best known for Star Trek: Discovery and Global’s Orphan Black. Screenwriter Malcolm MacRury joins as executive producer alongside Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie and director Scott.
Speaking to MiC this fall, Corus SVP of global entertainment and content acquisition, Maria Hale, said the year was off to a good start, with ratings up and new drama programs FBI and New Amsterdam regularly appearing on the Numeris top-five.
