Canadian Tire takes Toronto: Media Monitors

The retailer made a big radio buy in both Toronto and Montreal.

Canadian Tire made the largest radio buy in Toronto last week, according to the Media Monitors charts for Nov. 19 to 25.

The retailer jumped up from #4 the previous week, with a total buy of 1,087 ad spots. It was followed by OLG, up from #3.

The Acura Dealers Association climbed to #3 from #21, while McDonald’s fell two spots to #4. Freedom Mobile, which did not make a buy the previous week, rounded out the top-five.

Also new to Toronto’s buying charts was ginger ale brand Schwepps at #10.

For categories, car and truck dealer associations were the most prominent buyers with 3,193 spots (although that decreased from last week’s buy of 4,409).

Montreal had plenty of new buyers on the chart, including Bell Mobility, which came in at #1. That was followed by CTV at #2 (up from #8) and new entrant Canadian Tire. Nissan made the climb to #4 from #19, and Sunwing fell one spot to round out the top-five.

Other new buyers in Montreal’s top-10 were Mazda (#6) and Virgin Mobile (#8).

Bell Mobility’s buy helped propel the wireless carrier category to the top of the buying charts; advertisers in this category purchased a collective total of 849 spots, up from 271 the previous week.
