Sunwing reroutes to the top: Media Monitors

Travel services continued to play well in both Toronto and Montreal.

Last week’s blast of cold weather coincided with a big radio buy from airline and travel company Sunwing.

Purchasing 766 ads on the Toronto airwaves for the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, brings it up to the #1 spot from the #3 spot the previous week. Coming in second was the Nissan Dealer Association, up from #4. Rounding out the top-five were 1-800-Got-Junk (up from #9), BMO (down from #1) and Staples (up from #25). The lone new buyer in the top-10 was Volkswagen Canada, debuting at #10.

Although Sunwing soared top the top, banks, credit unions, mortgage brokers and financial services were the dominant category, with a total of 3,340 ad spots in the city. Travel services came in second at 2.518, up from last week’s total.

In Montreal, CTV was the top buyer, climbing up form #3.

Complementing the conventional network’s ad efforts was new entrant Bell TV, which debuted at #2.

Rounding out the city’s top-five were RedTag.ca (up from #4), Pharmaprix (up from #5) and Sunwing (up from #9).

For categories, restaurants and night clubs took the top spot in Montreal with a total of 701, up from last week’s collective buy. Travel services, however, were close at 667.
