RBC buys on top: Media Monitors

The financial institution knocked the top players out in both Montreal and Toronto.

Another week, another new top radio buyer in the Toronto market.

According to the Media Monitors charts for April 1 to 7, RBC, which hadn’t made an ad buy in the previous week, bought more radio advertising than any other brand in Toronto. With a play count of just over 1,000, it beat out the Elementary Teachers Foundation of Ontario, which moved up to #2 from #69 through a purchase of 849 ads.

In third place was new entrant BILD, followed by BMO (up from #6) and the Nissan Dealer Association (up from #11).

With big buys from RBC and BMO, it shouldn’t come as any surprise the the financial (banks, credit unions, mortgage brokers and financial services) was the top category with 3,135 spots total.

RBC also debuted on the top in Montreal, with 345 total spots. It beat out second-place finisher CTV, which has been the top buyer for most of this calendar year.

In third was 1-800-GOT-JUNK, which made a jump up from #47, and rounding out the top-fiveĀ  were furniture retailer Brault & Martineau (up from #9) and new entrant Jeep.

Despite RBC’s big buy, restaurants and night clubs were once again the biggest buyers as a category in Montreal, with 946 between advertisers in the category.
