CMDC appoints new chair Stuart Garvie

The GroupM CEO will take the place of former chair Kristine Lyrette.

GroupM Canada CEO Stuart Garvie has added another title to his remit. Garvie is now chair of the Canadian Media Directors’ Council (CMDC) effective immediately.

He replaces former chair Kristine Lyrette, who was appointed to the position in October.

Last week, Publicis Media confirmed that Lyrette left her role at Zenith as its president. According to a CMDC spokesperson, executives serving on the board must hold a leadership position with a Canadian media company or agency, as per Council criteria.

Garvie’s term as chair will last two years. His two decades of experience and global perspective were cited as factors that made him well-suited to lead the council; prior to joining GroupM in Canada, Garvie worked both agency-side and brand-side in Europe (with stints at Manning Gottlieb OMD, Reckitt Benckiser and Danone).

He also worked on the media company side, spending two years as president of Bell Media sales where he oversaw national sales for the company’s TV, radio, OOH and digital. He returned to GroupM in October 2017.
