Conservative Party makes a big radio push: Media Monitors

The party is targeting several hotly contested GTA ridings as election day draws near.

As the federal election enters its home stretch, the Conservative Party of Canada has upped its presence on radio airwaves in Toronto, according to Media Monitors data from Sept. 6 to 12.

It should be no surprise that the party is looking to Toronto for a big radio push. The Greater Toronto Area contains 50 ridings, nine of which are currently toss-ups between the Conservatives and the Liberal Party, according to the most recent polling numbers, which could be the deciding factor in an election that has been neck-and-neck at various points. That’s in addition to numerous other nearby ridings that are reached by Toronto radio stations.

GO Transit also upped its radio buy for a recently launched integrated campaign, while McDonald’s took the number three spot after dipping out of the top ten. Goodfood, Chatr and Fido maintained their strong radio buys from recent weeks.

Categorically, banks and financial services were the overall most active advertisers in Toronto, followed by wireless carriers, public transit and political ads.

Radio activity in Montreal was similar to previous weeks, with the Government of Quebec and McDonald’s taking the top two spots. However, Nissan, Volkswagen and Belairdirect all increased their radio buys to return to the top five in the city.

Categorically, government ads were once again the most present in Montreal, followed by banks, automakers and QSRs.
