Banks and telcos buy big in Toronto and Montreal: Media Monitors

Simplii, President's Choice, Subway and Telus all had a heavy presence on the radio last week.

Financial companies and telcos are in the midst of big pushes in Canada’s two largest radio markets, according to Media Monitors data for the week of April 25 to May 1.

In Toronto, Simplii Financial was the most active radio advertiser, jumping from the previous week’s #15 spot. Fellow financial and insurance brands President’s Choice Financial and Desjardins Insurance started strong with new radio buys, entering the top ten list at seventh and eighth, respectively.

Telus was also in the top ten twice: in third for a campaign behind its new Streaming+ bundle packages, as well as ninth for the radio element of its new masterbrand campaign. Public Mobile and Virgin Plus dipped slightly from the previous week, but remained among the most active radio advertisers.

Categorically, this led to banks and other financial services having the biggest radio presence in Toronto, followed by wireless carriers.

Subway was also a big buyer, hitting the number two spot in both Toronto and Montreal with a radio campaign behind itsĀ “Eat Fresh Refresh” effort.

Elsewhere in Montreal, Virgin Plus held onto its top spot from the previous week, with Telus and Bell also adding to the strong presence for telcos. President’s Choice Financial also had the fifth spot, while meal delivery service Bon C Bon increased its buy from the previous week for third. Categorically, wireless carriers were the most active advertisers in Montreal, followed by business services and banks.
