Corus has made big hosting changes for the morning shows at its three music radio stations in Toronto, including moving a well-loved hosting duo to a new station and finally naming a replacement for John Derringer.
Scott Tucker and Maura Grierson, hosts of Tucker and Maura in the Morning on adult contemporary station Energy 95.3, are taking over morning show duties at modern rock station 102.1 The Edge. The duo are veterans of Toronto’s morning radio scene: they made the move to Energy in 2019 after more than three years at Virgin Radio Toronto, where they had been let go when nearly off the stations on-air talent was let go. During their time with the station, their morning broadcast was rated among the top three in the Toronto and Hamilton markets.
Energy, meanwhile, had a 0.6% share of Toronto’s radio market according to Numeris’ summer 2022 data. Tucker and Grierson are also heard in the afternoons on Corus’ 103.1 Fresh Radio in London, which will continue.
The current hosts of “The B Team,” the morning show on 102.1 The Edge, are being given new assignments within Corus.
Shawna Whalen has been tapped to host a new morning show on Corus’ other rock station, Q017. The station has been without a dedicated morning show since last year when John Derringer was taken off the air following allegations of gender discrimination by former co-host Jennifer Valentyne.
Whalen will host the new show alongside Ryan Parker and John Garbutt, who had co-hosted alongside Derringer. Q107 is Corus’ highest-rated station in Toronto, with a 7.6% share.
Meanwhile, Whalen’s “B Team” co-host Chris Ziemniak will join 101.1 Big FM in Barrie.
“The B Team” took over The Edge’s morning show in 2020, replacing the brother-sister duo of Alex and Ruby Carr after roughly a year. The Edge had a 2.5% share in Toronto last summer.
Finally, the morning show slot at Energy 95.3 will be filled by a co-broadcast of the morning show at 91.5 The Beat Kitchener, hosted by Scott Fox and Kat Callaghan.
