Montreal’s Pixcom and Quebecor Content are adapting the hit culinary competition series MasterChef for the Quebec market, with the show set to premiere on TVA in winter 2024.
The French-language MasterChef Quebec has been commissioned by TVA and will be produced by Pixcom in collaboration with Quebecor Content. The first season, made up of 52 half-hour episodes, will be directed by Guillaume St-Arnaud (Sortez-moi d’ici!) and produced by Marie-Ève Gariépy, according to a news release.
Like the global format, MasterChef Quebec will see cooking enthusiasts go head-to-head, serving up dishes for a yet-to-be-announced panel of judges, with the winner of the season receiving the $50,000 top prize and the MasterChef trophy.
Yann Paquet, VP of strategy and international business at Quebecor Content, said: “Our priority at Quebecor Content is to bring the very best programming to our Quebec audiences, from original series to the highest quality adaptations of the world’s biggest formats. The addition of MasterChef to our schedule is further proof of our commitment to excellence in broadcasting and entertainment production .”
Created by Franc Roddam and first launched in 1990, the MasterChef format has been commissioned in 68 markets to date, according to Banijay.
Bell Media’s CTV is the broadcast home for MasterChef Canada (pictured), which has aired for seven seasons. The season finale of the most recent season in 2021 earned an AMA of 1.123 million viewers, according to Numeris.
