Kirk McDonald to exit GroupM

The North American CEO will step down at the end of the year.

A GroupM spokesperson has confirmed that Kirk McDonald is stepping down from his role as North American CEO.

“Since I joined GroupM a little more than three years ago, we’ve achieved incredible things — for our company, the industry, and our clients — living up to our promise of making advertising work better for people,” McDonald said in a statement released by GroupM. “I’m immensely proud of our progress on this journey. It’s been an honor to be a part of this team leading the way forward with the best in the industry.”

McDonald will reportedly step down at the end of the year, with Adam Gerhart, CEO of Mindshare, stepping in while GroupM searches for a replacement.

“I’d like to thank Kirk for his many contributions to our company,” GroupM CEO Christian Juhl said in a statement. “A champion for innovation and responsible investment, he has been a strong and inspirational leader for us and our industry. He has also been a valuable partner to me and the global GroupM leadership community more broadly.”

GroupM in Canada has been working towards its four-year plan to become the largest media organization in Canada, and there are broader restructuring efforts taking place across the organization regionally.
